Every year classic sports car and racing enthusiasts gather in the hilly country near Atlanta, Georgia, to celebrate the full spectrum of historical and contemporary motorsports. Road Atlanta has been home to the Classic Motorsports Mitty since its inception, and there’s no better place or time to enjoy a motorsports daydream. Join us April 27-29 for a long weekend of action both on and off the track. Even if you’re not a competitor, you can get your car on this internationally famous racing circuit by participating in one of the weekend’s parade laps.
The focus of the 2012 Mitty will be a British extravaganza and a celebration of all British marques, with special attention given to the ageless rivalry between Triumph and MG. Clubs representing these two marques will compete for best turnout in our Club Corrals in the infield, and the winning marque will receive special recognition in Classic Motorsports magazine. The single club with the most cars in their car corral will receive a special award.

The 2012 Grand Marshal is Triumph legend R. W. “Kas” Kastner.
R. W. “Kas” Kastner made his name as a production car driver in the late 1950s. He traded his driving gloves for a manager’s clipboard and enjoyed a legendary career in motorsports, helping both Triumph and Nissan to the top of the podium. Racing at the 2012 Classic Motorsports Mitty
There’s a weekend full of on-track action at the Mitty. We’ll have the full race schedule posted soon, but you won’t want to miss any of the excitement when these historic racing machines hit the track, from vintage production-based racers to historic stock cars, prototypes, Formula 5000, Formula 1 and more. The 2012 Mitty will also host the very first Gorsline Cup award, to be presented to the driver that best embodies the spirit of the Gorsline company.
The 2012 Classic Motorsports Mitty will also host the Friends of Triumph and their special Kastner Cup race. This race is exclusively for Triumph-powered race cars, and grand marshal Kas Kastner will select the Kastner Cup recipient. This will be the 10th running of the Kastner Cup race. It’s a traveling show and we’re excited to host it at the Mitty.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Miami – In conjunction with GoRacingTV.com, The Trans Am Race Company LLC. is pleased to announce GoPro (cameras) and Traqmate (data acquisition) as official partners of the Trans Am Series and GoRacingTV. The two companies will add a new perspective to the broadcast coverage never before seen in the Trans Am Series.

With GoPro and Traqmate, we are providing our fans with enhanced coverage and in-depth information. Fans will see the race just as the Trans Am drivers see it – from on board, and those images are going to be HD quality, thanks to the Go Pro camera. In March, Trans Am announced it would partner with GoRacingTV.com to provide a unique form of video coverage for the 2012 season, affording Trans Am fans coverage of their favorite race series worldwide.
GoRacingTV.com will produce a half-hour highlights show that covers both the on track and off-track action, and it’s in these shows were the Go Pro cameras and Traqmate data systems will be relied on to tell the inside story. GoRacingTV.com will provide expanded coverage with the short video vignettes, which will be distributed via the Internet and through the new GoRacingTV.com mobile App throughout the weekend.
The coverage will now include multi in-car coverage and telemetry feed back from the cars on track. Combining these elements will let fans keep up with their favorite series and drivers throughout the season.

What’s it like behind the scenes of a popular TV show like Top Gear USA on the History Channel?
We at Traqmate got to find out when Top Gear called and wanted to use Traqmates for recording laptimes at their test track. The track is located at the former El Toro Marine base in Orange County California.
The Start/Finish for the track is now one of the 320 tracks that ship pre-programmed in the Traqmate TraqDash color display. While they hide the equipment as much as possible because, well, the stars are the stars, if you look closely during the “Big Star, Small Car” celebrity laps you can see the GPS antenna on the top of the awesome Suzuki SX4.
Here are some pictures from the week we spent on site. The shows are currently airing on History.
If the show looks like fun on TV, that is because it is. The stars are really nice guys and the huge staff that it takes to film the show are extremely dedicated and talented. Here Tanner Foust tries to impress a cute girl from the audience.

And The Stig? Well, he is not much of a conversationalist but he is a hell of a driver as you can see with the attached Traqmate data from the unofficial fastest lap time ever. Big power tuner Hennessey is just up the street from the Top Gear studio and they drop by often with their latest creations. Here is a very short video of The Stig launching the Hennessey ZR1 at the Top Gear Test Track. In person, it sounds like a jet taking off. Click the image to view the video.
